Astonishing as it sounds, the monsoons can actually dehydrate your body, and that garam chai craving can do you more harm than good. Here are a few tips for a healthy monsoon

The monsoons bring along a bag of mixed feelings – contentment to be rid of the sweltering heat, delight at the greenery that springs up overnight, glee at the pitter-patter of the raindrops, annoyance with the motorists who turn a blind eye to the pedestrians, irritation with the public service authorities for the flooded roads, exasperation at the essential service providers for the power outages! And so off we go… traipsing to our friendly street vendor who’ll warm the cockles of our heart with some garama garam bhajiyas, cutting chai, and
ras-omelet coupled with sizzling jalebis just out of the deep frying pan!

The monsoons have our appetites at an all-time high, and the pleasantness of the weather tempts all and sundry to overdo the relishes of life. But the monsoons also bring along certain health risks, which we all ought to be wary of.

The damp and filthy conditions in the monsoons make our body more susceptible to health issues as the rains reduce the immunity of our body. Allergies, infections, and indigestion problems are rampant when humidity is usually high, thereby resulting in a compromised digestive capability. So temper your hearty appetite with a dose of caution as poor digestion leads to a form of ‘cellular starvation’ which in turn lowers your metabolism and increases fat storage.
