Vedanta signs concession agreement for redevelopment of three berths at MPT

Concessions of agreement for the project of redevelopment of berths 8, 9, and the barge berth between Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) and Goa Seaport Private Limited (a Vedanta group company) were signed in the presence of Union minister of Shipping, Highways and Road Transport Nitin Gadkari and chief minster Laxmikant Parsekar. A project of 200 KV solar installation at MPT was also inaugurated by Gadkari

The minister expressed confidence that both projects would boost the economic growth of state. “We are a fast growing economy, and therefore our ports needs to develop. To reduce the cost of transport or logistics in the economic sector, it very important to develop infrastructure for ports,” he said.

Gadkari further talked about the Sagarmala project which will bring investment to the tune of around
`12 lakhs crores towards waterways, ports and coastal area development, through which Goa is expected to benefit directly in many aspects.

He also expressed serious concerns on rising road accidents and said that his ministry has allocated `11,000 crore to do away with accident prone zones. Until now 786 lakh accident prone zones have been identified in the country, he said .

Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar lauded the various initiatives and schemes instituted by Gadkari for Goa. There were many infrastructural projects in the road transport and mobility sector that were awaited for long time. These were started only after Gadkari took charge as a union minister.

Concessions of agreement were signed by chairman of MPT I Jayakumar, and CEO of Goa Seaport Private limited Kishor Kumar. Power Minister Milind Naik and chief secretary of Goa R K Srivastava were also present.
