That pain in your side

Kidney stones are quite literally the pain you can avoid with a few changes to your lifestyle

The prevalence of kidney stones is increasing and gets more common with age. The risk of developing kidney stones is 10 to 15 per cent with the lifestyle we are living, although this number is expected to get higher. Preventing kidney stones isn’t complicated, but needs a little determination.

Urinary stone disease is one of the most common urological problems faced by patients in Goa.

A combination of a warm humid climate, faulty dietary habits and lack of adequate fluid intake increase the risk of urinary stones.

The most important symptoms indicating a stone problem are:
•    Pain in the flank radiating down to the groin. It is caused due to blockage of the ureter connecting the kidney to the urinary bladder which causes spasms.
•    Vomiting is a central reaction to the pain.
