Admiral Shekhar Mital awarded IIT distinguished alumnus award

Chairman and managing director of Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) Admiral Shekhar Mital (NM) was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award by IIT, Kharagpur, during its 63rd convocation.


The award was presented for his outstanding achievements and contributions to the industry and society at large based on recommendations of the senate and board of governors of IIT, Kharagpur. Admiral Mital has served in the navy with distinction for more than 33 years, for over three and a half years as chairman and managing director of GSL and is credited with an impressive turnaround of the company. 
Among the other awardees were chief editor of Indian Express Raj Kamal Jha, West Bengal police chief Surajit Kar Purkayastha, founder and CEO of Mapmygenome India Anuradha Acharya and others. Google CEO Sundar Pichai was one of the Distinguished Alumnus awardees for last year’s convocation.
