Medical charity Mission Smile, in partnership with the Muthoot Pappachan Foundation, is offering free cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries to the children and young adults of Konkan and Goa from November 12 to 16 at the Manipal Hospital, Dona Paula.

This is the first time that Mission Smile has come forward to help those in need of cleft lift surgeries in this region. It is expected that the five-day comprehensive cleft camp will provide more than 50 surgeries through a team of experts. The volunteer medical team from Mission Smile comprising the specialties of plastic surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, anesthesiology, paediatrics, dentistry, speech, language, pathology and nursing are conducting the camp.
Unit head of Manipal Hospitals Goa Girish Babu Bommakanti said, “We are glad to be a part of this noble cause and offer free cleft surgeries to people in need. Cleft lip has been a cause of concern world-wide and by partnering with Mission Smile we aim to eradicate this condition across Goa and Konkan coast. Manipal Hospitals has always been a front runner in medical advancements as well in creating awareness about prevalent medical conditions. We have the best technology  with an extremely talented pool of medical professionals who go a step ahead in providing the best treatment for our patrons.”
Muthoot Pappchan Foundation (MPF), the CSR arm of the Muthoot Fincorp Ltd, is supporting the entire mission so that cleft-affected children of Konkan and Goa can benefit from free surgery.
MPF launched its flagship corporate social responsibility programme ‘Smile Please’ for Muthoot Fincorp Ltd, in October 2014 at Kottayam, Kerala and till date has provided safe surgeries to over 1300 children across India.
Mission Smile is looking forward to helping the children of Konkan and Goa in this manner every year in partnership with the Muthoot Pappachan Foundation. For the upcoming camp, it has launched cleft awareness campaigns across the state with Muthoot Fincorp branches helping them through outreach camps and identifying cleft patients for medical screening.
Patients will receive free transportation, food, accommodation, medical examination, surgery and medicines, as well as post-operative care.
