Adventz youth fest launched with farmers’ app

Adventz Group, a conglomerate of 25 companies led by chairman Saroj Kumar Poddar, kicked off the Youth of Tomorrow 2017 grand fest in Goa with the launch of the Jai Kisaan app for farmers by chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

In its third year, the three-day festival, with the central theme of ‘Adventz celebrates Agri-Innovation’ is seeing 300 students between 13 and 17 years from 25 private, government and government-aided schools compete across disciplines. This edition also includes talks by Dr Parasuraman of M S Swaminathan Research Foundation and Ajay Naik, a well-known Goa-based hydroponic farmer among others.
The Jai Kisaan app, part of Adventz Digitalisation Roadmap complementing the government’s Digital India move, will provide knowledge and actionable information to farmers; help them engage better with Adventz Group’s agri-focused companies – Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited, Paradip Phosphates Limited and Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers; and extend benefits of expert access and agri services, critical for the community’s livelihood.
Chief minister Parrikar acknowledged Adventz Group company Zuari for being a “pollution-free” and “no-problem” firm for at least two decades.
He said that the company with “its CSR and other activities has proved the immense potential of Goa in ensuring that the state becomes self-sufficient in horticulture”.
Calling for best practices and sustainable solutions, Parrikar said companies should ensure “responsibility, accountability and duty” for the sake of inclusive growth and development for farmers.
He said, “The app will not only give the farmers a database but also help them with various initiatives of the government such as the health cards.” With the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana launched last year, Goa became the first state to have a health insurance scheme to benefit all residents irrespective of their financial status.
Zuari Global Ltd managing director Suresh Krishnan said, “Since we began in 2015, Youth for Tomorrow has become a platform for the talented youth of Goa. The youth today are infused with a new dynamism in an IT-driven world where excellence, talent and self-confidence knows no boundary, be it of age, geography or resources. Zuari is a pioneer in the agri-business, known to infuse technology, innovation and growth in the eco-system. It is a platform Adventz chose to showcase the Jai Kisaan app, a fine example of technology meant to better the lives of 60-70 per cent of the Indian population. It is apt that the app comes at a time when Brand Jai Kisaan – hailed as an ally of the Green Revolution in the 60s – celebrates its Golden Jubilee.”
