Taking Goa n industry westward

Colorado-based Purnima Voira, founder-CEO of the National US India Chamber of Commerce, is all set to take Goa to US through trade

She has set her aspirations straight. Purnima Voira wants to connect the United States with India, known today as one of the world’s fastest growing economies.

For this, she founded the National US India Chamber of Commerce in 2005 with Indian-origin members of the business and political communities.

Voira's main aim is to open doors for companies interested in selling their products and services in India. Her efforts got her a post on the national advisory council for minority business enterprises with Barack Obama's government, through US Commerce Secretary Gary Locke.

Although she left India 40 years ago, Voira's dream was to make India a land of opportunity like the US. All the while, she has never lost sight of India, known as ‘the lady in the sari' for her attire at all important business or political meetings.

Voira was a delegate at US presidential advisor Ivanka Trump‘s recent Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad. During the trip, she visited the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and signed a memorandum of understanding with the government for trade with the state.

Voira speaks to VIVA GOA about her journey to the White House.
