Sensorium begins at Sunaparanta

Debuting this year at Sunaparanta, Goa Centre for the Arts is Sensorium, a collection of international stars from the world of arts and literature who will present fine work and original thought.

In its inaugural edition, Sensorium reflects on photography at its intersection with literature, cinema and music. Sensorium was recently inaugurated by its Executive Producer Isheta Salgaocar, Honorary Director Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi, among other dignitaries. Well-known poet, novelist, librettist and musician Jeet Thayil performed for the opening.
Shanghvi told Vogue India, “Sensorium is a counterpoint to many festivals I’d attended, where artists and authors (including myself) spoke about incredibly dull topics like ‘Indian writing in English’. When Sensorium came about — organically, over drinks with close friends Raj and Dipti Salgaocar — I wanted friends to come to Goa and make work instead of sharing an opinion. Sensorium is small but serious, with most artists making new work. The entire exhibition and talks including bringing down folks from Europe and hosting them, is sponsored by the Salgaocars, which is a gracious gesture for any patron of the arts in our country.”
The highlights of the programme includes a visit by bestselling historian and Princeton professor William Dalrymple, acclaimed artist Dayanita Singh, Oscar-nominated script writer Sooni Taraporevala and a show of Farrokh Chothia’s jazz greats (with an introduction by Salman Rushdie).
Sensorium 2014 is being held from December 06, 2014 to February 05, 2015.
