Tribal delights at Amona

Pantaleao Fernandes walks around a tribal folk festival and witnesses the many cultures and traditions that might face extinction due to modernisation

On January 10-11, a tribal folk festival was held in the village of Amona, deep in the Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary. 

It was a long picturesque drive, along the highway, way beyond Canacona, but the final lap on the well-maintained sanctuary roads was exhilarating, with no sounds of traffic but instead those of nature such as the wind rustling through the leaves, the chirping of birds and an occasional animal call. 

Guests were greeted by a rustic gate at the venue. Wandering around the festival area was certainly a visual treat.
