Home care nursing school inaugurated in Bambolim

Rotary Club of Panaji Mid-Town has set up a home care nursing school called Sahayata in Bambolim, north Goa, which was recently inaugurated by the Dean of Goa Medical College Dr Pradip Naik.

Industrialists Shrinivas Dempo and Mohandas Naik, Madhukar Dixit from the NGO Matrucchaya, Milind Shankhwalker, President of Rotary Club of Panaji Mid-Town Santosh Shetye, Sandip Naik, as well as members of Rotary club and other prominent citizens were also present. Chief Guest Dr Naik congratulated the Rotary Club and Matrucchaya while highlighting the acute shortage of home nursing assistance and assured that GMC would be very happy to associate with this project and would provide the necessary training to the students through patient aid centre in operation at the hospital.

Shrinivas Dempo outlined the acitivities of Matrucchaya and the coming together of different NGOs and corporates for the benefit of the community. He described how more than 1,000 patients have benefited from Rugnasharaya at Bambolim in the last six years.

Shankhwalker briefed the gathering about the various initiatives of the Rotary Club of Panaji Mid-Town while Santosh Shetye who is the coordinator of the project explained the course structure in detail. 

The home care nursing school has been set up with an initial investment of `32 lakhs through donations from Rotary club members, friends of Rotary and in partnership with Sesa Sterlite. The intake per batch will be 15 students, who will be provided free education and training during the six-month residential course recognised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Department of Elementary Education and Literacy, Government of India.
