Safer Streets

A road accident involving their daughter galvanised Dr Shubhangi Tambwekar, a Goan by origin, and her husband Sanjay Achyut Tambwekar to take up the cause of road safety and spread awareness about responsible driving

A freak road accident less than a year ago which claimed the life of their daughter Arundhati was an eye-opener for Dr Shubhangi and Sanjay Achyut Tambwekar. Arundhati, a post graduate diploma student in Clinical Pathology at Christian Medical College in Vellore, was killed in a two-wheeler accident due to bad roads near the institute.

This led the Tambwekars to do something about road safety. While the Tambwekars were always socially responsible, this incident led to the start of The Arundhati Foundation, where they brought all the activities under one roof, specifically those that they started in memory of their daughter.

Road Safety
Under the initiative ‘Vikram’, the Arundhati Foundation tackles both road safety and civic improvements.
Dr Shubhangi Tambwekar says, “We aim to contribute to road safety with a particular focus on accident prevention, including creating awareness of bad road conditions, influencing policy, and influencing accountable parties to rectify the situation. Partly, we will try to meet these objectives by teaming up with an organisation such as Save Life Foundation.”
