V M Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE) recently announced a new course: MSc in International Hospitality and Tourism Management (MSc IHTM).

The first-of-its-kind in the state, the course affiliated to the Goa University is a two-year degree programme that follows a credit-based system with 64 credits spread over the two-year period.

Of these, 40 credits are assigned to core courses that include an internship which carries eight credits. The balance 24 credits are assigned to optional courses. Each credit comprises 12 hours of teaching.

The programme is divided into four semesters. The first two have compulsory courses while the third and fourth have a combination of core and optional courses. The internship is to be undertaken at the beginning of the fourth semester.

Principal and director of VMSIIHE Prof Irfan Mirza said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the global business community. It is changing the way business is done the world over. The same is the case with the hospitality industry. The vision for this programme is to prepare future–ready managers who are well-versed with the industry and are able to navigate through the challenges. For hospitality graduates and working professionals looking to launch their careers in the challenging tourism and hospitality sector and take it to the next level, this programme will offer deeper insights into the industry.”

The programme involves extensive application of case-based learning, seminars, and actual hands-on training, assignments both at individual and group levels, and intensive exposure to the actual business problems through industry projects. Students are encouraged to creatively think about business situations, proactively anticipate issues and problems, and innovatively deal with them such that they are fully prepared to plunge into the business world to make a challenging professional career.

Supported by global hospitality brand, the Marriott Group, VMSIIHE has an existing collaboration with Turismo de Portugal resulting from an MoU signed between the two countries, with Portuguese prime minister Antonio Costa during his visit to Goa.

Students who have answered or cleared their graduation in Hospitality Management/Tourism/Home Science can call +91 982-280-7814 or +91 832-662-3000 to schedule an appointment for a personal interview on any working day from Monday to Friday between 9am to 3pm.
