Sangath bags national recognition

Porvorim-based non-governmental organisation Sangath was honoured as the Runner Up for the ‘Best NGO Efforts in Healthcare’ award at the first edition of Doc N Doc – Gammex Saviour Awards which was held recently in New Delhi. The Saviour Awards recognises those who work to improve healthcare in India, and is an initiative of India’s first ever doctors’ information and lifestyle magazine.

Sangath’s chairperson Dr Amit Dias who received the award on behalf of the NGO said, “This award is the result of the hard work put in by our staff, along with the help of our funders and consultants. We have to thank all those we work with for their unstinting faith and support.” Managing Committee member
Dr Vikram Patel added, “As a result of our success in designing effective and low-cost models of care for people with mental health problems, Sangath has been able to contribute to improving the quality of mental health care, not just in Goa, but in other parts of the country, and globally.”

For the past 18 years, Sangath has worked to improve health across the life span by empowering existing community resources with appropriate physical, psychological and social therapies. It focuses on child development, adolescent and youth health, adult health, ageing and chronic disease.

The Doc N Doc – Gammex Saviour Awards 2014 presented more than 50 awards covering hospitals, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, researchers, innovators, international personalities, campaigns and social development initiatives.
