The Swami’s Journey

World-renowned spiritual leader His Holiness RADHANATH SWAMI, from the US, discusses his inspirations and the world of spiritualism with editor Kedar Dhume during a recent visit to Goa

Born Richard Slavin in the US, Radhanath Swami left everything he knew in Chicago as a teenager and journeyed across the world to India where he became a wandering ascetic. Finally, in Vrindavan, he found his path as a Bhakti-yogi.

He discovered his guru in A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and returned to the West to share the sacred wisdom he had received. At 31, he took the monastic vows of a Vaishnava sanyasin and became known as Radhanath Swami.

Today, he regularly travels across the world, guiding community development and directing social action projects. One of his most acclaimed projects involves serving more than 260,000 plates of sanctified vegetarian food to children in Mumbai’s slums. Based at the Radha Gopinath Ashram in Mumbai, he continues to work towards establishing missionary hospitals and eye camps, eco-friendly farms, schools and ashrams, an orphanage and emergency relief programmes in India.
