Navratri, Durga Puja and Dussehra offer an excellent time to assess our inner qualities and how we are strengthening the nation as individuals

The festivals of Navratri, Durga Puja and Dussehra are all inextricably interconnected. They symbolise the victory of good over evil. However, they also provide knowledge for those interested in the welfare of our nation to protect the intergenerational equity in the field of polity.

Vijayadashami, or Dussehra, derives its name from ‘Dus’ signifying the 10 heads of Ravana or evil and ‘hara’ which means to defeat. Vijayadashmi, thus, means victory on the 10th day.

Two important stories are connected with the festival’s celebration. One is associated with Lord Rama and the other with Goddess Durga. One celebrates the killing of Ravana – or Dashagrava – the 10-necked villain by Lord Rama; the other the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasuraon the 10th day of the lunar calendar.
