A touch of ethnic in Goan decor

Mumbai’s popular interiors design store Vaishnavipratima recently opened in Goa, setting up shop in a 90-year-old Portuguese Goan villa in Soccoro, Porvorim.

Specialising in Indianised artifacts, furniture, interior design and, for the first time, fashion by Prama and Bhavaa jewellery, the studio is named after its founder popular interior designer and artist Vaishnavipratima. It first opened in Mumbai in  2016 and has since been known for its exclusive customised furniture and design for Indian homes.

The store in Goa has a signature collection more suited to Goan homes and its people as it simultaneously retains its design sensibility of celebrating Indian art. Unlike its Mumbai flagship, outdoor furniture, designer beds, dining tables, premium designer wear by Prama (chanderi saris and Indo-western outfits by Pratima Pandey) and Bhavaa jewellery with semi-precious gemstone collections are notable additions to the Goan store. Both Prama and Bhavaa share similar aesthetics and ethos with Vaishnavipratima.

The store also boasts an entirely new furniture and furnishings line, each specifically designed to suit large open Goan homes and the local hospitality industry.

Founder Vaishnavipratima said, “Within a few months of opening my flagship store in Mumbai in June 2016, I had a secret wish to open my second store. Seeing its success, expansion was only natural and there was nothing better than a heritage Goan villa! Moreover, after intensive market research and current lifestyle changes, Goa seemed like the ideal place for my designs. It is after all known as a tourist’s paradise!”
