Mackerels               4 medium (450 grams)

Turmeric powder                 1 teaspoon

Ginger-garlic paste       1 tablespoon

Lime juice                     2 tablespoons

Dried red chillies                                 6 

Cloves                                                 8

Black peppercorns                               10

Cinnamon                         1-inch stick

Cumin seeds                         ½ teaspoon

Garlic, chopped                        8 cloves

Onion, finely chopped             2 medium

Sugar                                    1 teaspoon

Vinegar                                 4 tablespoons

Oil         2 tablespoons + for shallow frying

Rice flour                                             1 cup 

Salt to taste


1 Clean and slit the mackerels on either side of the bone. Marinate in a mixture of salt, turmeric powder, 

ginger-garlic paste and lime juice for 20 minutes.

2.Grind the red chillies, cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon, cumin seeds, garlic and onions with sugar, vinegar and salt to a fine paste. Add a little water if required.

3 Heat two tablespoons of oil in a pan and sauté the spice paste for two minutes. Remove from heat.

4 Stuff each mackerel with 1.5 tablespoons of the spice paste. Roll the stuffed mackerels in the rice flour and shallow-fry on both the sides until golden brown. Serve hot.
