BUILT OUT OF MOG

With love and vision, eminent Goan artist Subodh Kerkar has created the Museum Of Goa (MOG) at Pilerne, north Goa, to showcase the work of Indian artists to the world

With exhibitions and installations around the world, Subodh Kerkar has left his creative mark pretty much everywhere. With a view to bringing together India’s contemporary artists on a platform where they can showcase their work and at the same time connect with local and international spheres, the Calangute-based artist is launching Museum Of Goa – or MOG, which means ‘love’ in Konkani.

But he doesn’t want it to function as a traditional museum does, where ancient objects often lie forlornly and isolated. Located in Pilerne Industrial Estate in North Goa, MOG – which will open its doors in November – aims to be the birthplace of ideas, where a variety of art forms lucidly connect with each other. There will be paintings, sculptures, photographs, music, theatre, design, video art, films, installations and others.

Kerkar, who initially qualified to be a medical doctor, believes that Goa lacks contemporary art spaces, and wants MOG to function as a platform that will showcase local work and put the state on the international art map. Its first exhibition from the November 06, 2015 to January 25, 2016 is set to present the work of twenty artists, and will include sculptures, drawings, paintings, installations, videos and documentaries that explore the multiple strands of Goa’s history.
