Varsha Usgaonkar discusses her life as an actress in Mumbai and her recent Konkani film Zanvoy No 1

She broke tradition by following her dreams. Varsha Usgaonkar discovered a love for the silver screen ever since she tagged along as a young child to her mother’s classical singing concerts.


Fuelling this passion in college through mature plays and tiatrs, she shattered the prevalent glass ceiling by wearing shorts on stage back in the 80s as the lead in the theatre adaptation of Acharya Atre’s Brahmachari. She hasn’t looked back since.


Over the years, the vivacious actress – daughter of one of Goa’s first cabinet ministers A K S Usgaonkar from Usgao – has worked with leading actors across India including Mithun Chakraborty, Rishi Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Govinda, Naseeruddhin Shah, Nana Patekar and Sachin Pilgaonkar others.
