Mystic heights

About eight kilometres from Margao along the Quepem road, lies Parvat, Paroda’s majestic hill. You can feel the delirium of breathing oxygen-rich air on ascending the winding road that leads to the peak, 348 metres above mean sea level. 

The hill at Paroda is well known throughout Goa for its ancient temple of Shree Chandreshwar Buthnath. The deity was apparently worshipped by the Bhojas who ruled South Goa in ancient times, and had named their capital Chandrapur (presently Chandor) after the deity. 

It is speculated that King Chandravarman might have built the Lord Shiva temple in the 5th century and named the Shivalinga Chandreshwar or Chandranath. It was called so because the rays of the moon fall directly on the linga every full moon. Besides this historic deity, the altitude offers a panoramic view of the surrounding villages. The place also abounds with hidden caves and springs.
