The festival of lights brings colour to lives: each day is significant and has a story to tell. VIVA GOA asks a few of its avid readers about their favourite Diwali moments

What is your favourite Diwali moment ? 

During the festival of lights, we are told that the Goddess of wealth, Laxmi, visits our homes to spread joy and prosperity. The festival brings family and friends together. Diwali wishes early in the morning from your near and dear ones brighten up the day. I also look toward to relishing sweets and goan dishes, which we specially prepare on the festive occasion. All of it has its own charm.

What is your favorite Diwali moment ? 

Deepaavali brings fond memories of my childhood.It meant going to my native place ‘Usgaon’. Deepaavali meant meeting my cousins, aunts, showing off my new dresses, eating different kinds of Pohas made in coconut milk & haldi, Karanjis, Laddoos etc. Today Deepaavali in Mumbai means noise pollution, air pollution, health hazards, risk and all the nuisance value that comes along. Actually, it is originally and rightly so, a festival of lights, celebration and happiness but somehow all of us have forgotten the real meaning of Deepaavali.
