Goa’s favourite sour fruit kokum is slowly becoming popular across the country, thanks to the health drink Maangoal
Mango may be the king of fruits but mangosteen, or kokum as it is popularly known here, is definitely
the queen.
Found especially in the Konkan region and fondly loved by Goans, it is a go-to juice to aid digestion and for additional medicinal benefits after a meal.
Seeing the potential in this pint-size fruit, renowned telecom company My Recharge Pvt Ltd, in association with Goa-based Team24 Food and Beverage Pvt Ltd, is making sure it reaches every doorstep in India through its health drink ‘Maangoal’ containing six additional ingredients.
In its first year of launch itself, the juice brought in a whopping turnover of Rs.35 crore and is aiming to reach the Rs.100 crore mark this year.
VIVA GOA speaks to My Recharge Pvt Ltd director Ashok Kulhari about his experiences with Goa’s favourite fruit, kokum.
What fueled your move from your core business of mobile and DTH recharges to marketing a health drink?
We are well settled and well organised in the telecom industry with more than four lakh dealers. But this industry is facing increasing competition, margins are shrinking and the ultimate sufferers are our dealers or distributors.
