Vice chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) Subhash Phal Desai gives us a sneak peak of what to expect from the golden jubilee celebrations of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa
The opening shot is set in 2004. Goa hosted the 35th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) for the first time. It felt like the first day at school. A huge step, new adventure, immense responsibility to shoulder, a fear of something going wrong, a series of deadlines to meet, the pressure of meeting expectations, and more than anything, running and managing a chaos-free eight-day show. Fade out.
Fade in. The prestigious festival is a grand success. Goa is made the permanent venue of the festival. The state rejoices at the honour and the abundant opportunities that lie ahead. Fade out.
Fast forward through a few glimpses of the many film festivals that graced Goa.
Jump to 2019. Goa is all geared to up host the golden jubilee celebrations of the 50th IFFI which also happens to be its 15th edition with Goa as its permanent venue. Once again, it all feels like the first day of school. Nothing about the feeling has changed; the rush of emotions, all of it, just like in 2004. The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) has been spearheading the entire operations and preparations for IFFI ever since the festival came to Goa 15 years ago. This year is no different.
