From the rich to the poor

The Goa chapter of the Robin Hood Army is curbing food waste in an attempt to stamp out hunger in the state

The name Robin Hood takes us back to our childhoods, of the good thief who robbed gold and food from the rich and gave it to the poor, a hero to the deprived! Inspired by this rebel hero and taking cognizance of many countrymen going to bed hungry, two young men Neel Ghose and Anand Sinha from Delhi formed an army to help the needy, no theft involved!

The Robin Hood Army has inspired the community to give back to those less fortunate. Founded on August 26, 2014, it was registered as a charitable trust in India, starting with five volunteers feeding 150 homeless people in Delhi. Today it has served more than six lakh people with 5212 volunteers spread across 30 countries including its Goa chapter of 15 volunteers, increasing quickly. On February 15, 2015 the green t-shirts crossed the border taking on the streets of Karachi in Pakistan to help the under-nourished.

The Robin Hood Army (RHA) does not accept any monetary donations. It only distributes food or donations in kind received from restaurant partners and donors. They collect leftovers or extra food from restaurants and distribute it to the homeless in the locality. A few volunteers also prepare food at home in groups and distribute it. But if you want to donate food, there are some ground rules. You can only distribute food that you yourself would eat. No leftovers or inedible food!
