VMSIIHE introduces new masters course in tourism under Goa University

Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE) recently announced a
new course: MSc in International Hospitality and Tourism Management (MSc IHTM).
The first-of-its-kind in the state, the course affiliated to the
Goa University is a two-year degree programme that follows a credit-based
system with 64 credits spread over the two-year period.
Of these, 40 credits are assigned to core courses that include an
internship which carries eight credits. The balance 24 credits are assigned to
optional courses. Each credit comprises 12 hours of teaching.
The programme is divided into four semesters. The first two have
compulsory courses while the third and fourth have a combination of core and
optional courses. The internship is to be undertaken at the beginning of the
fourth semester.
Principal and director of VMSIIHE Prof Irfan Mirza said, “The
COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the global business
community. It is changing the way business is done the world over. The same is
the case with the hospitality industry. The vision for this programme is to
prepare future–ready managers who are well-versed with the industry and are
able to navigate through the challenges. For hospitality graduates and working
professionals looking to launch their careers in the challenging tourism and
hospitality sector and take it to the next level, this programme will offer
deeper insights into the industry.”
The programme involves extensive application of case-based
learning, seminars, and actual hands-on training, assignments both at
individual and group levels, and intensive exposure to the actual business
problems through industry projects. Students are encouraged to creatively think
about business situations, proactively anticipate issues and problems, and
innovatively deal with them such that they are fully prepared to plunge into
the business world to make a challenging professional career.
Supported by global hospitality brand, the Marriott Group, VMSIIHE
has an existing collaboration with Turismo de Portugal resulting from an MoU
signed between the two countries, with Portuguese prime minister Antonio Costa
during his visit to Goa.
