Goan fashion designer Verma D’Mello takes ‘non-violent’ silk to Paris through her humane collection Luxury in Cocoon

Eminent Goan fashion designer Verma D’Mello brought Goa to the limelight at the recent Paris Haute Fashion Week, where her ethical collection ‘Luxury in Cocoon’ stole the audience’s heart. Models sashayed down the ramp wearing Verma’s ahimsa-themed collection of humane silk to the melodious voice of fado singer Sonia Shirsat.
 
Verma focused on non-violence and used silk produced without killing silkworms in her 30 creations. “Ahimsa silk lacks the feel and sheen of conventional silk, which has deterred Indian buyers from adopting it. Internationally, people are more conscious of what they wear and strongly believe that patronising ahimsa silk reiterates their commitment towards nature,” she says.
