Goa’s first Grandmaster

Anurag Mhamal began playing chess at the tender age of six, participating in local tournaments with his father’s support. Slowly and steadily, he gained recognition nationally and internationally.

Earlier this year, the now 24-year-old defeated his 2381-rated opponent International Master Romeo-Sorin Milu from Romania and crossed the magical 2500 mark to become India’s 48th grandmaster. He also became the first grandmaster from Goa.

He chats with VIVA GOA about his achievement.
