The New Normal
Will our hotel experience ever be the same? VIVA GOA finds out what hospitality in the time of coronavirus means from VINCENT RAMOS, area director at Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), Goa and General Manager of Taj Hotels & Convention Centre, Goa
The coronavirus pandemic has taken the world by surprise with
the impact it has had on the economy
of several countries, including India. Goa, too, has
been subjected to financial losses, with the tourism industry facing the wrath
of the lockdown and added safety concerns of those visiting the state. However,
after
months of closing doors, hotels in the state have
resumed operations by taking hygiene and safety up several notches.
VIVA GOA talks to Vincent Ramos, area director of IHCL
Goa and general manager of Taj Hotels & Convention
Centre Goa, about the new normal on the hospitality
front.
How
many hotels from the IHCL Goa portfolio are currently open and what safety and
hygiene measures are being implemented?
In the first phase, we have re-opened Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Goa;
Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa, Goa; Taj Holiday Village Resort & Spa,
Goa; Vivanta Goa, Panjim; Ginger Panjim; Ginger Margao; amã Stays & Trails
Cardozo House, Goa; amã Stays & Trails Braganza House, Goa; and amã Stays
& Trails Villa Siolim, Goa.
In the past few months, we have had thorough training
sessions for all our employees on the hygiene and sanitisation practices in
accordance with the norms laid down by World Health Organization (WHO), Food
Safety and
Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Indian
government.
Hotel infrastructure, working standards and culture
have been redefined to the new normal of hygiene and sanitisation standards,
keeping our guests’ well-being
