A fit start

Secrets to staying in shape and healthy despite the festivities and temptations of the season as the New Year approaches

Like it or not, it’s the end of yet another year. With all the feasting and celebrations, it can be extremely tough to keep up a regular exercise routine.
Very often, a belief that two weeks away from the gym can do no major harm turns to surprise when you realise, in the New Year, that the scales don’t tilt in your favour or the inch you managed to rid yourself of in November is back on in January!
The partying cannot be stopped, but your mind and body can be tuned towards staying fit in the middle of all the family chaos that comes around in December.

Plan your training: If you know you’ll be out of the gym for a few days, plan on using those days as a recovery and rev up your workouts in the preceding days. Be proactive and set aside a dedicated time to hit the gym, if you can, even when on holiday away from home.

Put exercise first: Change your schedule to hit the gym early in the morning to get a workout in before your day begins. This way you have plenty of time to get all the busy holiday stuff done while not regretting missing your gym date. Also, this guarantees that unforeseen interruptions in your schedule won’t interfere with your exercise time.
