Cookbook Ishtann releases 7th edition
he seventh edition of bestseller Ishtann (in English) was recently released by chairman of de Souza Group Ralph de Souza and co-founder of Capvent AG Varun Sood in the presence of publisher at Printer’s Devil Sapna Sardessai and daughters of the author late Padma Mahalé, Megha Thakker & Varsha Deshpande in Porvorim.
Translated from Mahalé’s the original Konkani version by Sapna Sardessai, Ishtann (meaning, friendly food) is a collection of traditional Saraswat and other recipes that are immensely popular in Goa. Besides renowned cookbook authors, writers and food lovers, late Manoharrai Sardessai endorsed the book with the words: “The language of Ishtann is clear and simple and the style is clean and crisp”.
The recipes range from basic masalas to curries, rice dishes, breads and desserts, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
Sapna Sardessai remembered the late Padma Mahalé with gratitude and affection and revealed that she was the angel behind Printer’s Devil. Ralph de Souza spoke about the need to combine both tradition and the experience of the new, especially within our own Catholic/Hindu community. Varun Sood analysed the growing popularity of Saraswat cuisine in Goa and overseas. Megha Thakker fondly reminisced her mother’s love for innovation in traditional food to make it appeal to her children. Published by Printer’s Devil and distributed by Broadway Book Centre, Ishtann is now available at all leading book stores in Goa.
