Sumantha Nayak
Social Service Star
A student of Narayan Zantye College of Commerce, Bicholim, Sumantha Nayak was recently awarded the Indira Gandhi NSS award by president Pranab Mukherjee for his contribution to social service. The 21-year-old has actively participated in tree plantation programmes, blood donation camps, India’s cleanliness drive Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and the national learning programmes for girls Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan.
He has also worked to create awareness in rural areas on the importance of education, to provide stationery to economically and mentally challenged groups, to organise activities for old age homes and orphanages and much more.
Sumantha Nayak has also represented India in the 200-member youth delegation to China under the Indo-China youth exchange programme.
He speaks to VIVA GOA about his inspiration and plans on the welfare of the society.
When I received the Indira Gandhi NSS Award…
It certainly inspired me to try to achieve more. I am honoured and humbled to receive this award from president Pranab Mukherjee. It’s a dream come true. I can only say that my dedication has paid off in a big way. And at the same time, I realise that it is my responsibility to take it to greater heights from here.
