WKMA: International Platform for Promotion of Konkani Music Talent Launched
Konkani
music across the globe is set to receive an international impetus with the
launch of the World Konkani Music Awards, a platform for emerging new talent.
The event was announced with celebrity singer and social activist Hemaa
Sardessai and jury member along with founder Allan Vaz and the promoters at a
press conference held at the Panjim Convention Centre in the capital.
Through
the yearly grand award function the organisers seek to unearth the stars hidden
in the vast galaxy of Konkani music in the far corners of the world.
Using the power of the latest tech and digital platforms their mission is to
reach every individual who is craving for Konkani music. Their vision is to
'enrich the rich Konkani culture via promoting it widely by means of music and
songs.
The first edition of the
talent hunt kicks off it's journey in the birth place of Konkani, Goa on
February 7, 2020. It is designed and conceived on the lines of the
international music awards.
Musician and
singer founder Allan Vaz says, "We want to offer a
platform that celebrates and showcases genuine musicians across the globe and
create an award that aims to put Konkani music on the global map," in
addition to facilitating young talent to challenge themselves and find their
dreams and find opportunities.
Allan
Castelino,
one of the promoters says, "We all have a liking for music, specially the
ethos of Konkani. Since the language seems diminishing in this world, we
thought of nurturing the rich Konkani culture by blending it with the might,
dynamism and diversity of Konkani dialect across the globe."

The organisers invite
participants to register their entries for the grand award function. They can
log onto www.wkma.in to sign up and
upload their audio and video files on the website.
All entries will be
screened by a panel of eminent judges from the music field and the winners will
be announced at the grand finale to be held at the Dr Shyamaprasad Mukherjee
Stadium. The esteemed panelists include: celebrity singer and social activist Hemaa
Sardessai, veteran in the music industry Atul Churamani and Nimrika Singh,
Editor of Rollingstones Magazine, India.
The competition will have
the following categories: Best Singer (Male and Female), Emerging talent
(male/female), Best music director, Best music video, Best lyricist, Most sold
albums, Most streamed song, Best rock band and Best film music.
Apart from the contestant
categories, the awards also recognise the stalwarts from the industry through
the Lifetime Achievement Award and other awards for contribution towards
Konkani music.
The largest concentrated effort in
promoting Konkani music across the world, the World Konkani Music Awards hopes
to carve a niche in the global music scene in years to come.
