THE LEELA GOA GLEAMS WITH PRIDE
The super luxury hotel based in South Goa looks back on the past 25 years with satisfaction as it celebrates its silver jubilee
Founded by Late Captain C P Krishnan Nair, The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, was envisioned as one of the finest Indian luxury hospitality brands. As the Chairman Emeritus and Founder Chairman of Hotel Leelaventure Limited, Padma Bhushan Captain Nair – who named the company after his wife Leela – led the group from its beginning as a solitary hotel on the outskirts of Mumbai in 1987 to a range of eight award-winning properties, nominated to this elite group of leading hotels of the World, that celebrate India’s diverse geography and architectural history.
Its property in South Goa lies on a scenic stretch nestled between the vast Arabian Sea and the pretty River Sal. Since its opening in 1991 the beachside resort in Cavelossim has been honoured with a number of awards including the top spot in ‘The Best Environment Practice Competition’ by the state environment ministry. The property contains myriad species of flora inspired by Late Captain Nair’s love for nature. It has also received awards for its food, with the Susegado restaurant claiming the ‘Best Seafood’ title by the Times food and Night life award.
