Anuja Prabhudesai first Goan woman judge of Bombay High Court
North Goa Principal District and Sessions judge Anuja Prabhudessai became the first Goan woman to be appointed a judge of the Bombay High Court.
She was administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Justice Mohit Shah in the Central Hall of the High Court in Mumbai. With Prabhudessai’s appointment as a High Court judge, the strength of women judges at Bombay High Court has increased to seven.
Hailing from Avede-Kotambi in Quepem taluka of South Goa, Prabhudessai was appointed as the Judicial Magistrate First Class in 1992 and in 2003, she was elevated as the Principal Judge. She was posted as the Principal District and Sessions Judge, North Goa, Panaji and served there close to two years before her elevation to Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court.
