New top brass elected at TTAG
Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) recently held its 31st installation ceremony for the new president and committee for 2016-2018. Hotelier Savio Messias took charge as president.
The new managing committee comprises vice-presidents Ernest Dias and Ramnath (Babu) Quenim and secretary Guitry Velho.
The other members of managing committee include joint secretary Jack Sukhija, treasurer Atish Fernandes, outgoing president Francisco de Braganca, executive members Ralph D’ Souza, Prasad Kanoth, Charles Bonifacio and Nilesh Shah. The co-opted members include managing director of Goa Tourism Development Corporation Nikhil Desai, director of tourism Sanjiv Gauns Desai and the head of Institute of Hotel Management, Goa.
Messias said, “We need foreign tourists because they are able to fill-up the room inventory. They come for seven to 10 nights, while Indian tourists come for two to three nights. The government can give concessions like reduction in flight landing charges at the airport, which will help in boosting foreign numbers.”
He added, “Goa is becoming an expensive destination due to the high rate of taxation on tourism business. Taxation in Sri Lanka, Combodia and Vietnam is much lower.”
TTAG also formed a youth committee for the first time with Carlos de Sousa, Priyanka Row, Sairaj Dhond, Anish Quenim and Effigenia Miranda as members.
