MAGSONS The ‘Future Ready’ Store
Founder & CEO of Magsons Group Kirit Maganlal was featured on the cover of Progressive Grocer, one of India’s top trade magazines on retailing. We reproduce the interview...
Incepted in 1990, Magsons is a well-known supermarket chain in Goa with 10 stores. In a tête-à-tête with Namita Bhagat, Kirit Maganlal, founder and CEO of Magsons Group, provides insights into the chain’s operations and his strategy to keep up with rapidly changing consumer trends.
Please shed some light on the history of Magsons.
Well, Magsons opened its first store in 1990 at Miramar, Goa, which apart from a supermarket, housed a 10-room hotel, an ice cream parlour, and restaurant and bar. From 2002 onwards, we focused on our supermarket offerings.
Goa has a strong Portuguese and western influence and the demand for cold meats and gourmet products was growing. So, we redesigned our supermarket and introduced an exclusive range in gourmet categories. Currently, we have 10 stores across Goa (six in North Goa, four in South). All our stores are of different formats and cater specifically to the surrounding catchments.
