Julio Rebeiro graces Joy of Giving Foundation tribute
Chairman Oscar Gonsalves and the board of trustees of the Joy of Giving Foundation organised a centenary birth celebration to pay tribute to late professor Ana Julia Godinho Goncalves at Ravindra Bhavan, Fatorda recently. Former Mumbai Police commissioner Padma Bhushan Julio Rebeiro was the chief guest and his wife Melba Rebeiro was the guest of honour.
Rebeiro called upon the youth to join government service and improve the system by serving the masses better. He said, “Government officers can command respect from the general public, provided they do not consider themselves as bosses, but work as public servants. Job is service and if everyone works with zest, morality and interest, we can change the system and provide people with good administration”.
“It is good to see that many Goans are still involved in agricultural activities,” he said while appreciating the work of Don Bosco preist Fr George Quadros in agriculture and upliftment of the less fortunate in society.”
The Joy of Giving Foundation, initiated in memory of Oscar Gonsalves’ parents, aims to build good family life, encourages agriculture to promote employment, organises workshops for teachers to improve the education system in Goa, and provides economic support to students.
Ten of Professora Julia Gonsalves’ students were felicitated at the event for rendering service towards the society – Antonio Jose Rodrigues for his contribution towards earnestly reviving interest in agriculture for profitable usage of the land, Damodar Mauzo for promoting Konkani literature, Joaquim Fernandes for his contribution in the maintenance of law as a police officer, Jose Roque Gonsalves for contribution to religion, Leao Roque Gonsalves for promotion and contribution as a doctor of the church (received by Fr Fredrick Rodrigues), Thomas Rodrigues for his contribution to education, late Xavier Martins for his contribution as a senior doctor.
Eight meritorious students were also felicitated for securing high percentages in the SSC examinations in March 2016.
