Rush for US visa application
The US Embassy in New Delhi has recently recommended that travellers to the States apply for visas well in advance due to heavy demand that has seen the wait for an interview touching as long as a month or more
In a non-peak travel time, the visa process – getting an appointment for biometrics and then appearing for an interview, if needed – takes 15 days to 20 days. “At this time , applicants across India may wait 30 days or more for a visa interview appointment to become available and the embassy expects this wait time to continue for at least the next few months.
Mission India’s non-immigrant visa workload is one of the largest in the world, processing over a million visas a year. In the last five years, the demand for visas to travel to the United States has increased by over 60 per cent,” the US embassy said in a statement.
The number of Indian visitors to the US last year is awaited, while the number in the six-month period from January to June 2017, was 5.5 lakh.
