Income Tax Day celebrated in Goa
The Goa Income Tax Department held a series of programmes to celebrate Income Tax Day. Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers from the department carried out a beach cleaning drive at Miramar and also conducted on-the-spot segregation of organic and inorganic waste and a tree plantation drive.
The department carried out outreach programmes with various Goan schools and colleges, where students participated in poster-making and slogan-writing competitions. The best entries were selected and the students with the principals were awarded by chief commissioner of Income Tax Usha Nair at the celebratory function.
She stated that taxpayers are an important part of the nation-building process and the department had achieved a milestone of collecting more than `10 lakhs crores of direct taxes due to increases in awareness, simplification of processes and utmost commitment of the officers and department officials.
Goan artists from various fields including Varsha Usgaonkar, Padma Shri Wendell Rodricks and Subodh Kerkar shared their experiences at the event. Senior officers of the department Amrapalli Das, Bhavna Yashroy, S K Keshmath and Manjeet Singh and others were also present.
